Transposase molecule
A transposase molecule is the enzyme that cuts out pieces of DNA and moves it to a different place on the DNA strand, in a process known as transposition.
To create this image the molecule data was downloaded from the Protein Data Bank website and loaded into the Visual Molecular Dynamics (VMD) program. This program allows you to view molecules in a variety of different visual representations, and to separate different parts of the molecule such as bonds, proteins, and water. This molecule was separated into protein and non-protein parts. The protein section (multicolored) was saved in two different versions: a ‘cartoon’ version, and a ‘cloud’ version. The non-protein (teal) part of the molecule is actually a section of the DNA strand. Each piece of the molecule was then saved as a separate bitmap image and composited together in Adobe photoshop.(via scientificillustration)

A Question of Open Calls
In connection with a project I’m thinking of doing an open call - however in most cases I think open calls lead to wasted energy, potential ideas and time. The fact that they often require the formulation of ideas, long before affording any guarantees of participation - often result in a stifling of ideas and over conceptualization before the projects are mature enough to resist simplification or pandering to theoretical-linguistic trends. I can’t help wondering if it would be possible to come up with alternative structures that could enable me to open up the project to as yet unknown potential participants, without becoming a part of the project economy that defines so much of contemporary art.
Off the top my head i can think of a few other formats:
Free for all -all materials sent in are accept
Curating - specific individuals invited based on concept
Participation - Something for something i.e.. The tyranny of the active
Random - pick random artist from an existing list.
Steal - Using the work of artist without their consent.
Economic criteria - pay to participate, or only for poor people
Math’s based systems - Selection based on non subjective systems such as for example statistics or Google search results.
Exquisite corpse or chain letter- a chain of invitations where those included have to invite someone new.
I wonder if there are any other interesting ideas out there?

After 13 years of close collaboration with Anders Bojen our partnership is evolving into something new. In the light of this I’ve launched a new website at http://oerum.org/ featuring a comprehensive catalouge of my collaborative works with Anders as well as future projects of my own. Please take a look at the website, which is still under development (many of the project are lacking a description), but it is probably the most comprehensive archive of the work of Anders Bojen & Kristoffer Ørum ever available online.
